Speckled Trout Fishing In Naples

Speckled or Spotted Sea Trout, also known as Cynoscion Nebulosus. Contray to its name the spotted trout is not a member of the trout family but of the drum family. Around our parts we call them “specks” where as people from the North call them “spots”.

They are in the Drum Family, known as Sciaenops ocellatus, they have a reddish, bronze top with a pale underbelly. They also can be identified by a yellow ringed spot near their tail. We catch them about 10-12 lbs with the record being 94 lbs caught in North Carolina.

Flounder, also known as Bothidae or Pleuronectidae get to 25 lbs. with the Florida record at 20.9 lbs. caught in Nassau county, FL. These flatfish spend most of their life swimming along the bottoms on their left side. Adults have both of their eyes on the top side of the body. They are usually as wide as they are long.
